I returned to India after spending over a decade in the UK. Not knowing what to expect as I took over my assignment with The Park Hotels, at their Chennai property, I vividly remember walking into the leadership group meeting on the morning of 1st March 2011.

Though he was chairing the meeting, the General Manager, Mr. Lemuel Herbert, was not sitting at the head, but amidst his team along the length of the table. He was warm and welcoming, immediately settling my first day nerves. Although, I spent a short time at the property, I got to know Mr. Herbert well, and can write volumes, but in interest of reader’s time, will keep it short.

He is a thorough hotelier and a quick and good judge of talent. In more ways than one, I owe him for the smooth transition during my homecoming to India. Over the years, I have come across people who have worked with him or been his students and am yet to hear anything short of high praise. He is a leader who does not yearn followers, but commands wide and varied followership.

​

He is a good listener, highly personable and a friend for life. I wish him well in this new role and certainly I consider him as one of the most suitable guide and mentor to past and future leaders.
